“Hail Rama!” - “Alles für Deutschland”. From Hoyerswerda to Ayodhya and back (WT)

This chapter presents the digital archive The Fifth Wall by Indian-German documentary filmmaker and anchor woman Navina Sundaram through six selected sources that cover the rise of nationalism and violent clashes in Germany as well as India with the end of the cold war. In this work, Navina Sundaram directs our attention early on to right-wing populism, racism, fascism and their global and temporal interconnections between the 20th and 21st centuries. She provides material that has only recently been taken up as an academic question, namely a comparison of the rise of neo-fascism between Europe, the USA and the Global South.

Her digital works biography is structured along four categories: Material (film, photo, text, letter, commentary), themes (media, migration, international politics, decolonisation, culture, human rights, racism, labour relations, gender, global economy), broadcast series and year of production. The Fifth Wall created a cultural history of the “other Germany” in the FRG, but also of the multiple German-Indian interdependencies.
