How Rich was the Last Bukharan Emir?

This study investigates the wealth and economic status of the last Emir of Bukhara, Alim Khan, before the fall of the Emirate in 1920. Yaroshevski presents a detailed account of the Emir’s financial resources, holdings in land, revenue from trade, and tax collection. The study also touches on how the Emir's wealth was both a symbol of his power and a target for Bolshevik propaganda, which sought to portray him as a feudal oppressor during the Red Army's invasion of Bukhara.
